Supporting Local Residents with Minor Home Repairs
Are you an owner-occupier in Salford? Do you need help with minor repairs around your home? Salford Foundation, in partnership with Salford City Council, offers the Handyperson Service. This is a trusted, local solution for essential home maintenance and repairs. This service aims to support Salford residents with a variety of tasks, ensuring homes are safe, secure, and comfortable.
Our fully qualified, trained and DBS-checked handypersons are equipped to assist with a range of repairs. These include home security, such securing external doors and windows, and addressing health and safety needs by fitting carbon monoxide and smoke alarms. External maintenance like clearing gutters and fixing trip hazards is also offered, as well as internal maintenance covering plumbing, joinery, gas, and electrical repairs. For those at risk of falls, the service provides fall prevention installations, including grab rails, stair rails.
If you are aged 65 or over and receiving a means-tested benefit (Pension Credit, Universal Credit or Income Related ESA), or if you are living with an illness or disability and receiving a means-tested benefit, or a low-income family with a child under five, you could be eligible for free repairs. This includes both the labour and materials required to maintain your home’s safety and functionality. Unfortunately, we do not have the facility to accept fee payments for this service.
The Handyperson Service is reliable and trustworthy. All handypersons are DBS-checked and carry identification for your peace of mind. Visits are scheduled by appointment, ensuring that you are always in control of when the handyperson arrives. If the task is related to safety or security, our goal is to visit your home within one working day of your request. For all other tasks, we aim to visit within three working days. Our handypersons will bring all necessary tools, and if you qualify for free work, the materials will be provided at no charge.
If your repair needs extend beyond what the Handyperson Service can offer, we can help you find the right solution. Larger projects may be handled by Salford Home Improvement Agency, and for disabled adaptations, the Community Occupational Therapy Service can offer support. For those over 50 or vulnerable and considering moving home, then Salford Housing Options Point, known as the SHOP service provides valuable advice and information about housing options.
