Business Volunteering

At Salford Foundation, we want to work with businesses to enable positive change in the community. We have created an infrastructure which makes volunteering as easy as possible.

With so many companies offering time off for employee volunteering, we want to provide opportunities to support those initiative’s, You don’t need any qualifications, just the passion to help people and raise aspirations across Greater Manchester. Last year, volunteers delivered nearly 3,200 hours of their time thanks to our partnership with over 180 different businesses.

One of the easiest ways to get involved is through our Raising Aspirations team, who work with young people aged 11-19 to help them create better futures by raising aspirations for the world of work.

for 11-16’s, our Kickstart your Futures work is a legacy of our historic and well established programme, Salford Business Education Partnership (BEP), which aims at bringing business and education together through volunteering. Kickstart your Futures offers a wide range of activities, which can support curriculum requirements and help to provide students with opportunities to learn about the world of work and skills needed to succeed in life after school. All through something called ’employer encounters’.

For 16-19’s, our Working Futures project aims equip young people with confidence and skills to transition from education into the workplace through interactive and engaging activities which are all facilitated by business volunteers.

Why not take a look at our opportunities brochure for more information, which is downloadable below.

All the volunteering opportunities we offer are facilitated and supervised by a member of our team. If extended training is required, you will be guided through the process with one of our trained coordinators. Salford Foundation coordinators will reach out to you and meet before you commit to signing up.

Volunteering opportunities range in commitment, from half day or full day activities with World of Work or Mock Interviews through to 6 weekly sessions on our Mentoring Programme. Our opportunities are based across most of Greater Manchester, so you can select a local school close to where you live or work.

What people are saying

''I've really enjoyed the day. The pupils were very receptive and prepared for the interviews. Thank you for the opportunity to come and get involved''

Business Volunteer from Barclays, Bury

"This was my first time interviewing a candidate: it was a really good experience and I learned a lot. I’m hoping to apply for a management position so it’s good practice for me and I’m so pleased that the (interviewee) found it helpful. The event was well planned and successfully executed. The questions you provided for me to use really helped."

Business Volunteer from BNY Mellon, Manchester

"It was good to meet with a new group of students but also find out in more detail what some of my colleagues jobs entail."

Business Volunteer from GMI, Manchester

"It was a pleasure to collaborate with the Salford Foundation in sharing our insights of the TV industry with the students, and hopefully be a small stepping stone in others' future careers in media. It was great to share what we know and we always appreciate a chance to practice and develop our presentation skills as it’s something we do a lot for our clients."
